Sundance Film Festival 2002 Poster. 24" wide by 36" tall.

The 2002 Sundance Film Festival came early this year to make room for another international event being held in Park City, the 2002 Olympic games. In addition to sharing the same locale, the 2002 Film Festival demanded near Olympian stamina to cover the 113 feature films, the panels at the House of Docs and Digital Center, the daily concerts at the Music Cafe, not to mention the virtual festival streaming online. Along with the whirlwind of new films was a gesture of solemnity with a special event of 9/11 films. The films that won this cinema Olympics displayed the changing world of independent film as two DV features won major awards (TADPOLE and PERSONAL VELOCITY), as did a drama made for cable television (REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES), and films like SECRETARY succeeded in breaking new ground with truly original stories. In the end, jury member John Waters put the ten days in perspective with his quip, "I thought I had seen everything, but I will leave here astonished."
